Recipe: Cupcake Bath Bombs

I can proudly say after many attempts, I’ve come up with the perfect cupcake bath bomb recipe. It wasn’t the easiest of tasks, but after trying a few different online recipes, I found this one to be the simplest. This cupcake recipe will take you 2-4 days to complete. This allows the cupcake base to harden properly and the whipped frosting to look it’s best before packaging.

The Cupcake Base: (Day 1)

1/2 cup Corn Starch

1/2 cup Epsom salt

1 cup Baking Soda (AKA Sodium Bicarbonate)

2 tablespoons of Almond Oil

2 scoops of Mica Powder (color of your choice)

Metal Cupcake Tin

Spray Bottle filled with Witch Hazel

Rubber Gloves

3 tablespoons of Essential Oil (again, your choice)

Mixing Bowl

The Whipped Frosting: (Day 2)

Kitchen Mixer

3 tablespoons Meringue Powder

1/4 teaspoon Cream of Tartar

16 oz or box of Powdered Sugar

6 tablespoons of warm water

1/4 teaspoon of Essential Oil

1/4 teaspoon of Mica Powder (white or a color lighter then your base will look the best)

Frosting Bag

Frosting Tip of your choice

Let’s begin:

In a mixing bowl combine corn starch, epsom salt, and baking soda with your hands, making sure any lumps are removed. Add 2 scoops of mica powder and continue blending with your hands. (You can always achieve a lighter or darker color by adding more or less mica powder) In another mixing bowl add the almond oil and essential oil. Mix together. Slowly pour into dry mixture. With a gloved hand continue mixing the base until well blended. You may have to spray up to 50 pumps of witch hazel to achieve the sand like consistency we’re going for. (your mixture should be damp enough to hold together and not crumble)

Quickly and firmly press the mixture into the tin cupcake molds. Let sit over night to ensure the base is hardened properly.

Once hardened, your cupcake base should fall out of the tin molds. Don’t worry if the cupcake tops are not completely flat or shaped funny, they will be covered by the whipped frosting.

The Whipped Frosting:

Using a Kitchen mixer slowly add meringue powder, cream of tartar and powdered sugar ( 1 cup at a time, or you will have a huge mess) Next, add essential oil and mica powder. Set mixer for 7-10 minutes and watch your mixture turn into whipped and fluffy frosting. Next, transfer your frosting into a frosting bag and frost away. I actually watched tons of YouTube videos to see different techniques on frosting cupcakes.  It takes a lot of practice and a steady hand. But, remember to have fun:)

If you plan on packaging your Bath Bomb Cupcakes you should wait until the 4th day to ensure the whipped topping is harden.
