Recipe: Lavender Lotion Bars

I’ll admit- there’s a certain store in the mall, one that boasts overflowing wooden bins of lush handmade body products, that I lust over. It’s just so divine. Some of the products look and smell so delicious that you’re left wondering if you’re supposed to rub them on your skin or eat them. With so much inspiration for homemade versions, I decided to recreate the prettiest product I saw: the lotion bar. Packed with lavender buds and full of body quenching shea butter, you’ll never believe how easy it is to make your very own version!Screen Shot 2014-04-24 at 10.39.40 AM

Start by gathering up your ingredients. For this recipe, you’ll need:

The beeswax/shea butter mixture should look like this when it’s melted.

Next, stir in the lavender essential oil. I used 1 teaspoon, but you can adjust this amount to achieve a heavier or lighter scent.

Stir it up!

Now prep your molds. I only made a small amount of the lotion mixture, so I won’t be using every square in this mold. You can double or even triple the recipe if you want a larger batch. Sprinkle lavender buds into the bottom of each mold.

Carefully pour the liquid mixture over the lavender buds, filling each mold evenly (I was a little messy, as you can see).

Now it’s time to wait! Allow sufficient time for the lotion mixture to fully set, about 2 hours. You can speed this up by placing the molds in the refrigerator if you’d like to. Once the bars have fully set, simply pop out of the molds and use!

These lotion bars are so beautiful and will leave your skin feeling amazingly soft and smooth. They’re an easy and affordable alternative to pricey store bought body products that you’re sure to fall in love with.

Be sure to share- your friends and family will LOVE these just as much as you do!
