My name is Amy Miranda and I have making soaps since right before the start of covid. I decided with no reason that it was time for me to learn how to make soaps, and started my soap journey. I enjoyed every minute of it, even when I had to wash all the containers and tools at the end of the process. Today I still make soap a lot more like a relaxing hobby without going into mass production.

What inspired you to start creating and selling your products?.
I felt the urgent need out of nowhere to learn soap making and persevere until I perfected my formula or recipe, and I got such satisfaction when I created such a useful product with my bare hands. Soapmaking is as you know both an art and science.. so you need to be quite focused on measurements or quantities as well as use high-quality products. When I discovered bulk apothecary in the beginning of my soap making journey, I stuck with this company because I never had any issues and I found their oil and shea butter prices quite competitive.

I am glad you love our ingredients! What do you love most about creating your products?
I truly love a lot the creative aspect of soapmaking. It involves a lot of steps, but you have to have this burning desire not just to create anything but to excel and do the utmost best, you have to think and act like a perfectionist, and think outside of the box. That does not mean you have to be doing intricate and impossible designs, but keep in mind what you are creating is soap.. and ask yourself before you create a special design: “Is this a soap I would use myself in the shower or to wash my hands?” if the answer is yes, then go for it. If on the other hands, you created a piece that people say “I am too afraid to use it, because it is so pretty and if I use it, it will melt and go away…” then you have to reconsider your approach, because soaps is made with one specific purpose at the end. It can be beautiful but it needs to also be practical.
What is your personal favorite product you have created?
I am currently in love with more and more natural soaps, meaning less or no mica, and more of natural coloring and if you succeed in making an appealing bar with these criteria, than you achieved your goal.
What is one piece of advice that has helped you in your business?
Persevere, never give up. Never compare yourself to the big soaper that have rooms full of soaps, but just enjoy the process and go with the flow. It is not so much about making money, although we all need to be rewarded for our hard work, but it more about giving joy to others through your lovely soap bars. I often gift my soaps, whether I sell them or not.

What are some of the biggest challenges you and your business face?
I will be honest: selling has been the biggest challenge.
What was your inspiration behind the name of your company?
I tried to keep it simple. My full name and beauty because when you are clean you are beautiful. Beauty starts with being clean.
What is your favorite Bulk Apothecary product and how do you use it in your business?
I would always come back for your shea butter. I love it as well as the castor oil and coconut oil. Amazing oils and butters!

What is your favorite part of the creative process? Least favorite?
From where do you draw your inspiration to create your products?
At night before falling asleep, I think of soaps, and I imagine in my mind, the color combinations and designs.. then I wake up in the morning and spend a bit more time exploring all the options.. this can be very stressful.. once I know what I want, I start making it.
What values does your business embody?
High quality, luxury. Strive for perfections, never settle with mediocrity. Do the best and that’s all you can do.
Do you have any words of wisdom to offer any aspiring makers?
Start simple, start small. Take time to learn. Keep it simple.
It’s been wonderful getting to know more about you and your business! Before we wrap up, can you let everyone know the best way to explore more of your work and connect with you?
