Body care line business owner
Thank you for taking the time to share more about your business with us and the maker community. Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your journey with handmade body care products?

Thank you for considering me for this great opportunity. My name is Terah and I’m the founder of Body Baked, a handmade body care brand specializing in whipped body butters. I started Body Baked in 2017, and what started as a small idea in my kitchen has now grown into a brand and i’m so proud of it. My goal has always been to create products that are nourishing, fragrance inspired, and affordable, helping people feel pampered and confident everyday.

We love it when small dreams become big successes! What inspired you to start creating and selling your handmade body care line?

My inspiration came from something close to my heart, my mom. She struggled with Psoriasis for years, and I hated seeing her skin irritated. Topical steroid cream that doctors provide can mask the problem but it can also cause common side effects down the line such as thinning the skin and bruising. I wanted to create something that was both gentle and effective, while still feeling luxurious and not feeling like she was medicating her skin. That pushed me to do research and start experimenting with shea butter and carrier oils in my kitchen back in 2017. Over time, I fell in love with not only the process of formulating but also with fragrance. I realized I could create body butters that weren’t just good for the skin, but also smelled incredible. The mix of self care, scent, and skin nourishment is what became Body Baked. What started as me trying to help my mom has grown into this beautiful brand and community. Now I get to help thousands of people feel pampered, confident, and cared for through my products.

That is definitely something to be proud of! Can you tell me what you love most about creating your body care line?

What I love most is seeing how something I created with my own hands can bring joy and confidence to someone else. There’s nothing better than hearing from a customer who says my body butter made their skin softer, or that a scent reminded them of a favorite memory. For me, creating isn’t just about making a product. It’s about pouring love, care, and intention into something that becomes part of someone’s self care journey.

What values does your business embody?
Body Baked is rooted in self care, confidence, and community. I believe skincare should be both effective and enjoyable. I also value accessibility. Luxury should be affordable and approachable for those that might not be able to buy that $400 product. Most importantly I want my Butter Babes to feel like part of something bigger than just buying a product.

You truly are helping others. What is your personal favorite product you have created?

That’s such a tough one because each product feels like my baby, but if I had to choose, I would say Crimson. It’s inspired by Baccarat Rouge 540, an iconic fragrance, and I love how I was able to capture that rich, sophisticated vibe in a body butter. It’s elegant, long-lasting, and always makes me feel put together, plus my customers can’t get enough.

That sounds amazing! Can you share your favorite Bulk Apothecary product and how you use it in your body care business?

I really love Bulk Apothecary’s fragrance oils. They’re such a key part of my creative process because the scent is what gives each Body Baked product its own personality. I use them to craft body butters and oils that not only nourish the skin but also smell good. The fragrance oils give me the flexibility to bring those ideas to life and create unique blends my customers fall in love with.

We do love a good Fragrance oil! What is one piece of advice that has helped you in your business?

Learning to be ok with where I was. Starting where you are, with what you have. When I started my business, I was so concerned about what other business owners were doing that I couldn’t fully focus on what was in front of me. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start. That mindset has carried me through every stage of growth. Reminding me that progress matters more than perfection.

You can not move forward if you are to busy watching everyone else, this is all great advice. What are some of the biggest challenges you and your business face?
One of the biggest challenges is definitely not selling my body butters in the summer. My whipped body butter is what I’m known for and they are heat sensitive, which means I can’t ship them in the summer time without risking melting. Even though I used insulated bubble wrap and ice packs for many years during the summer, I had to think about my customers’ experience. That’s why I had to pivot and add body oils in the warmer months. Balancing production, inventory, and customer demand through the seasons has been a challenge, but it has also pushed me to expand and innovate.

Caring about your customers’ experience is one of the things that makes you so great. What was your inspiration behind the name of your company?
I wanted a name that was playful, fun, and memorable while also tying into the idea of treats. “Body Baked” came from my love for sweets and baked pastries. Something rich, comforting, and satisfying. That’s exactly how I want my products to feel for your skin.

What is your favorite part of the creative process? Least favorite?
My favorite part is fragrance blending and naming them. Scents tell a story, and I love creating those little experiences through a jar of body butter or a bottle of oil. Naming them is like giving them their own personality.

Mt least favorite part? Definitely clean up days in the studio. Shea butter loves to stick to everything, and cleaning out my mixers isn’t as glamorous as making the product.

From where do you draw your inspiration to create your products?
Inspiration is everywhere for me. From luxury perfumes I admire, to desserts and fruits I grew up loving, to simply capturing a season or mood. I think fragrance is powerful because it can take you back to a memory or shift how you feel, and I love bringing that into skincare.

Do you have any words of wisdom to offer any aspiring makers?
Don’t wait until everything feels perfect to start. Test, learn, and keep improving as you go. Also tell your story. People connect with you just as much as the connect with your product. Stay consistent, the small steps you take everyday will add up to something big.
That is great advice. Thank you so much for taking time to tell us more about Your body care business. Before we go, can you share with us how others can best check out more of you and your work?
