Meet Cynthia Luna, The Candle Boss
At Bulk Apothecary, we take immense pride in supporting and showcasing the brilliant skincare makers and candle makers we supply products for. We spotlight one of these creative souls each month, sharing their inspiring journey with the world.
This month, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Cynthia Luna, owner of Candle Boss, an extraordinary talent in the Candle maker community. Cynthia’s passion for creating high-quality Wax products grabbed our attention, and we had to share her story and candle creations with you!
Cynthia, we are so excited to showcase you this month. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Cynthia Luna and I am the owner/creator of Candle Boss. My journey as a candle maker began during the pandemic. I had given up social media and that forced me to fill my time with something productive and positive. This landed me on YouTube and somehow stumbled onto candle making and after watching about 100 hours of videos I decided to purchase my first candle making kit. To say I was intimidated by candle making is an understatement. There’s science and math and temperatures and flashpoints, and also a curing time. I never understood exactly how complicated it was going to be but I already bought the kit so I just went for it. Fast forward to 2023 and what once was a business made up of mail candles has become a business mostly based around food shaped/scented wax melts. We are forever evolving and learning new skills within the candle/home scenting industry.
We love all the creative wax melts you come up with! What inspired you to start creating and selling your products?
My partner was actually the one who created my candle maker profile page on Instagram. He saw that I was spending a lot of time making candles and wax melts in our kitchen and one day he showed me that he started a business page for me and encouraged me to share my creations with the world. I never thought of my candles and wax melts being more than a hobby but he really pushed me to chase my passions and take a risk.
That is great to hear your partner believed in you and encouraged you to sell your creations! Can you share a piece of advice that has helped you in business?
One of the biggest pieces of advice that has helped me in my business is DO YOUR OWN TESTING! Research and test your waxes, fragrance oils, wicks, colorants and vessels. Not everyone is going to have the same result. Safety is key.
We agree with that advice, as a bulk supplier for candle making needs we see how everyone’s results can be unique based on many factors. Do you have a current favorite product from Bulk Apothecary?
At the moment my favorite Bulk Apothecary product is the room and linen spray base! I find that it is compatible with all the different fragrances I have tested out, no matter what company they’re from. The fragrance is long lasting and strong without being too overpowering. (These are my results using a 20% fragrance load) I use this spray whenever I know I’m having company over and need the house to smell refreshed without having to deep clean!
The room spay is amazing, we agree! Especially paired with our Fragrance Oils . What is your favorite part of the creative process? Least favorite?
My favorite part of creating candles and wax melts is seeing the end result. When every piece comes together and turns out exactly or better than what I imagined it becoming and sharing it on social media. The feeling of accomplishment keeps me driven and motivated to keep pushing to create even better and unique products. My least favorite part of the creative process would have to be creating labels. The reason why I don’t like creating labels as much as I like doing everything else is that it’s very time consuming. There are hundreds of different fonts and sizes to choose from and sometimes I find myself getting stuck on one label for hours and it’s just not my favorite task.
One thing we know for sure is your end results are always amazing! We also understand the labeling struggles. We hear this often and it is exactly why we offer Custom printed labels for our customers. Your products are so creative, can you share where you draw your inspiration to create your products?
I draw a lot of my inspiration from bakers! I love making realistic wax melts that resemble food and treats and I find that some techniques that bakers use can also be used for dessert candle making such as piping wax. I follow a lot of bakers on Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest.
Cynthia, thank you for sharing your candle maker and wax melt story with us! Before we go, can you share with us how others can best check out more of you and your work?
