Lately, I’ve become pretty savvy at reading labels for “all-natural” ingredients. Be it cleaning products, makeup, or beauty essentials- I’ve really tried to steer clear of anything chemical to lead a healthier lifestyle all around. Along with a no-chemical approach to my products around the house, knowing that they’ve been produced in a cruelty-free way is definitely a plus. Sometimes finding the things I need, with the ingredients I want, produced in the way I prefer can be a challenge. So naturally, the best way to fill my home with products that meet my criteria is to make them myself. It’s really not as hard as you think, and it’s great knowing that the products you and your family use are safe.
This next recipe for shampoo will leave your hair feeling fresh and clean, and will also leave you feeling good about using it. It’s all-natural, cruelty-free (I’m trusting you’re not experimenting on your pets when whipping up homemade goodies- even though this shampoo is great for your pup as well!), and vegan friendly. Forget the farmer’s market- your neighbors will be lining up at your door for samples of your homemade goods!
Homemade Vegan Shampoo
- 1 cup of Castile Melt and Pour Soap Base
- 1 cup of water
- 1.5 tablespoons of olive oil or jojoba oil
- 5 drops of your favorite essential oils (I like to use peppermint essential oil for a minty fresh scent of lavender oil for a relaxing wash)
Mix all the ingredients together and pour into an empty bottle (I LOVE the Plastic Cobalt Blue Boston Round bottles). Don’t let the consistency fool you- this shampoo works up a great, sudsy lather like store-bought shampoos do. Lather and rinse as you normally do and enjoy your new favorite shampoo!
